What is a TN Visa?

 

A TN Visa, also known as a NAFTA TN Visa, is a USA work visa issued to persons (Canadian or Mexican Citizens only) with a job offer from a US employer to work in a professional field.


Who is eligible for a TN Visa?

  • Mexican & Canadian citizens with a bachelor's degree and a job offer from a U.S. company
  • Mexican & Canadian citizens in specialty occupations, such as lawyers, scientists, engineers, accountants, programmers, research assistants, management consultants, managers, social workers, etc.  (For a complete TN Visa job list, call our office.)

TN Visa Requirements & Documentation:
 

Among other requirements, a TN Visa application must include:

  • A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, Form DS-160
  • A passport valid for travel to the U.S. and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the U.S.
  • One (1) 2x2 passport photograph.
  • Letter of Employment in the U.S. This letter must include the following information:
  1. The letter must indicate that the job position to be filled is of a professional capacity
  2. The applicant must present evidence of professional employment to satisfy the Consular Officer conducting the TN visa interview. (Part-time employment is permitted, but self-employment is not.)
  3. Activity in which the applicant shall be engaged and purpose of entry;
  4. Anticipated length of stay;
  5. Educational qualifications or appropriate credentials demonstrating professional status;
  6. Arrangements for pay.
  7. Evidence of licensure to practice a given profession in the U.S. may be offered along with a job offer letter, or other documentation in support of a TN visa application.

  8. Applicants must show their intended stay is temporary, without the intent to establish permanent residence.

  9. Proof that the applicant posses the minimum education requirements or has the other credentials.

  10. Evidence of professional qualifications comes in the form of degrees, certificates, diplomas, professional licenses, or membership in a professional organization.

  11. Degrees, diplomas, or certificates received from an educational institutions from Canada or Mexico must be accompanied by an evaluation by a reliable credentials evaluation service.

  12. Document proving the applicant's experience should be in the form of letters from past employers.


TN Visa Processing Times

  • On the average, the TN visa processing time between 2 and 3 weeks from the time of the filing of the application. 
  • It takes our office about 2 days to create your TN application. 
  • On the average, the whole process takes less than a month. 
  • However, depending on the work load in the U.S. Consulate where you apply, your application may take longer.

How much does it cost to get for a TN Visa?

  • The government fees average near $200.00
  • The legal fees are $990.00
  • It takes a $500 retainer payment for our office to open your file and start work on your TN visa case. Payment options are available
